my band, Suicide Balloons, has a show tomorrow night (SATURDAY SEPT. 6TH) in Brooklyn at The Rock Shop (off the Union St. D/N/R stop). we’re on at 8pm, it’s 21+, and it’d be fucking rad as hell if any of you fine folks in the nyc area decided that…

I’m bored and I feel like stirring up some controversy tonight, so whatever:

In the aftermath of the J-Law photo-leak, I’ve seen tons and tons of people decrying the injustice of it all and how much of a heinous violation of privacy the leak is, including in the media. Which is all great and fantastic, and *exactly* how any decent person should respond to something as gross and fucked up as this situation. It’s been nice to see, at least a little, a shifting of perception in these kinds of things.

But I’d like to pose a question. Where were you/what was or is your opinion of Kim Kardashian as she was rising to fame? Why, when her *entire sex tape leaked* via a shitty company literally trying to commodify and sell her most intimate moments, did everybody attack her? Why is she a media punching bag, and slut shamed, and called a bad role model. She was a nobody at the time of the leak (like, I presume, most of us here), and built a goddamn empire out of possibly the most embarrassing situation you could be put through. And I think that is hella dope (while, admittedly, not caring at all for anything really her media empire has produced)… So why is it so easy for everyone to get on board with the social justice an outrage when it’s America’s Oscar-winning sweetheart’s privacy is violated, but are silent at best and venomous at worst towards Kardashian? Someone smarter and more educated than me about privilege, race, sexuality can probably get into well articulated specifics but, I know to me, something seems fucked about our (as a society’s) differing attitudes towards these two women. Anyways, so you know, chew on that a bit, maybe think about your attitudes.
